Chainsaw course enrolment

Update:

Several stakeholders and organisations have been contacted for sponsorship to subsidise the basic chainsaw skills & safety course but we haven’t had any success as of yet.

As planned, I’ve reduced my costs, and to keep the price down further the course will be held at the On Track Training farm in Otahu Flat. Should we secure funding the price will be lowered further – Chris M, Trainer

Basic Chainsaw Skills & Safety Course

Our Chainsaw beginner course is designed to give learners the skills to safely operate a chainsaw in lower risk situations.

This course is NOT designed for more complex tasks such as felling or dealing with large windthrow trees. But it is designed for smaller, already-uprooted trees that are considered low risk and not prone to springback from heavy, intact roots.

Our Course includes:

Approved code of practice (booklet provided)
First aid kit requirements
Correct PPE
9 safety features of a chainsaw
Correct cold start/ warm start techniques
Correct refueling Techniques
Correct stance when cutting
Different types of cuts and when to use them
Compression & Tension sawing
Traction recoil and kickback when cutting
If time permits , Basic chainsaw maintenance and chain sharpening

Please note: You must provide your own steel capped boots

Course Cost:

$150 (inc gst) per person

Half-Day Courses:

November:
Monday 24th
Wednesday 26th
Saturday 29th

There will be an option for morning or afternoon courses.

IF insufficient registrations are booked or weather is unsuitable you may be asked to reschedule.
